Character Name: Raivis Galante
Country: Latvia
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Camp guide or teen?: Teen
Appearance:
Raivis has short, slightly curly orangish-light blonde hair, his bangs are just at his eyebrows, and he had one more prominent curl in his bangs. He's very short for his age, often getting his mistaken as a younger child, or a girl, on more rare occasions. His eyes are a light violet, wide and nervous. He's used to colder weather, so unless it's very hot, he'll always wear long sleeved clothes, and pants. He's a bit scrawny, but not too thin either.
Personality:
Raivis is a nervous boy who always seems to be on edge, especially around strangers or people he isn't friends with. He's very much a pacifist and doesn't like getting himself caught up in trouble, or causing it. He usually has the best of intentions, but he tends to run his mouth, which gets him into the trouble he tries to avoid. Normally, he blends in with the background and doesn't stick out, he's not loud or showy. Raivis doesn't like being around a lot of people, and sometimes can be a bit too introverted for his own good. More often than not, he has to be dragged out to do things, and won't go on his own.
Raivis tends to be a crybaby, little things like a scrape or a stubbed toe can make him misty eyed. Due to this, he'd been an easy target for bullying. Sometimes though, he uses his tears to get out of sticky situations as well, finding that, in combination with looking like a small kid, people will occasionally come to his rescue when he's being bullied. He can be manipulative and a quick thinker when faced with a situation he doesn't want to be in, whether that's getting in trouble with parents or teachers, or getting in an argument with someone.
Unfortunately, Raivis is doesn't always run over what he says before he says it. He has a tendency to, usually because he's anxious, speak his mind, no matter how brash it might sound. He doesn't sound rude to his own ears, and he doesn't pick up on subtleties at all. People have to be very forward with Raivis; he's oblivious to the connotation of his words.
Despite his demeanor of a shy, skittish boy, Raivis' has very strong opinions and a lot of confidence in himself...He just doesn't voice it, unless with a close friend. His thoughts are usually even more impudent than his words, and even with bullying, Raivis doesn't take insults to heart at all. If he spoke his mind more often, most people would think Raivis was a bit full of himself, but in reality, Raivis just knows his skills and is comfortable with himself more so than others.
Self-esteem isn't really something he struggles with; he just deals with whatever people say in a much more passive way, because he's afraid of getting hurt.
On the other hand, though, after Raivis has warmed up to someone, he's very open and comfortable. He doesn't take too long to open up, a little bit of kindness really is all it takes. It is, however, easy to break his trust, and he isn't very forgiving.

- Wild animals; he's afraid of them somehow getting mauled or eaten by one. In particular, he's afraid of bears.
History:
Raivis lived in a small home in Riga, with both his parents. His family was very well off, but not rich. He never strayed too far from home, or joined any clubs, because of bullies at his school. Instead, he stuck around his mom and dad, helping them with cooking and cleaning, and loved reading with them. He was very close with his family, and couldn't have wanted better parents. Up until he was eight years old, Raivis led a relatively normal life, until his parents divorced because of his mom's drinking problem. Raivis lived with just his father after that.
Raivis distracted himself from his parent's divorce by engrossing himself in his schoolwork; he got very good grades and was almost always reading in his spare time. As he got older, he never really grew out of his homebody-tendencies, and stuck to his house even more. About when he was 12, Raivis' father started enrolling him in clubs and camps without Raivis' consent, to try and get the boy to leave the house and start making friends. But Raivis objected to most of these, never attending clubs, and purposely breaking rules in camps so he'd be kicked out. Raivis simply didn't want to be around other people, he didn't like having to deal with bullies, and didn't have interest in making friends.
Raivis eventually grew out of his reclusive attitude, and did start participating in a gardening club when he was 13. For the few years his father didn't pester him to be more social, until Raivis hit 15. His parents had a bad bout over financial issues, and Raivis eventually got sick of their fighting. He took up his dad on the offer to go to a camp off in America, while his parents settled things.
Journal Sample:
" Hello, journal,
It's been kind of a long day...I don't like days I have to go to gym, gym is always the worst class. The teacher doesn't pay very much attention, either. He's stupid. No wonder he works in a middle school gym class...Probably couldn't get a job anywhere else. All of the boys in that class are too tall, too! Tetis says I just haven't hit a growth spurt yet. But he's short, too. So is Māte.
But we had English today too; my English is definitely better than everyone else. I think they should stop playing together and study more...or just leave me alone, but still still study more. They're too scary, too. Stupid kids...everyone in the world should be short, then nobody would be short, we'd all be normal.
I was thinking today in English class about a story I could write...I think I want to try and publish something someday, I bet I could be famous for it, too. I dunno, maybe being a spy or investigator would be cool, too. I don't think they'd let me be famous if I was a spy, but then I could be sneaky and hide out everywhere...Or maybe I could just be an actor, and play a spy in a big movie, and still be famous! Being famous might be kind of cool...but now that I think about it, it's probably really scary too, with people watching you all the time. I might have stalkers. Or get kidnapped...maybe I shouldn't try to be famous, I think I'll just read books forever, that'd be the best job ever, not even scary! I might get a papercut, though...That's kind of scary. Kind of.
Okay, so I think I'm done writing, it's kind of weird to write stuff that isn't a story...Promise not to tell anyone all this stuff, okay? Bye, journal. "

Roleplay Sample:
Raivis scuttled along the sidewalk as he hurried home from school. Yes! He'd aced the science test he'd taken last week! They'd all gotten their tests back today, Raivis was proud of his perfect score. Well...perhaps it wasn't perfect, but it was at least Raivis was happy with it. Earth systems wasn't even his favourite subject, but as long as he kept those grades up, he didn't get bothered by teachers. In particular, though, Raivis loved getting the best score, it was a small victory for him. He couldn't be the tallest or most popular in class, but he could beat them all with grades. Was it really uncool? ...Yeah, it was. Nobody cared that Raivis got good grades; sometimes they just tried to steal his homework and copy it, even. But to Raivis, it was that little victory that kept him working hard, and made his father proud.
The day was actually pretty nice, too; it made Raivis happy. Normally, in Latvia that time of year, especially near the Daugava river, it was pretty chilly, cloudy, and always smelled like lake. Today was a little warmer, even if you still needed your jacket, and the clouds weren't nearly as thick. Even the smell of the Daugava river was a little different; was it perspective? Ah, most likely. Raivis was happy, and that always made the world seem better.
Ahead, as he ran, Raivis approached a small neighborhood; it wasn't such a close knit community, but the people were friendly, more friendly than his peers for sure. The short blond dashed up the steps to his home, knowing his dad wouldn't be back from the office he worked in yet; he'd put the test on the table where his father would find it, then get on his homework! Hurrying inside, Raivis was met by the familiar smell of his home; a little like cigarettes, his dad smoked, a minty tinge from the sweets he and his father loved to snack on, a bit of sweet smelling cleaner, and finally, the faint smell of the floral perfume his mother wore when she lived with them. It was comforting to Raivis, those smells he'd known since he was a kid would always stick with him.
Raivis made his way to his dad's office, but stopped before the door; was...was someone inside? Raivis felt a surge of panic, for sure, someone must have broken in and was looking for valuables. He froze in place, gripping his test paper, a chill running from the back of his neck to his toes...He listened closely, someone was speaking...only one person...Raivis took a step back, heart pounding; his father wasn't home, he knew he couldn't fight back an experienced thief-
Ohh, wait. Relief filled Raivis as he recognized his dad's voice, he sighed softly and nearly dropped his test paper. He really did need to stop reading those crime novels...
"No, I already told you...have to pay it, it's the..." Raivis strained his ears to listen, his father was on the phone. His heart slowed back to it's normal pace, he had to be quiet so his father didn't hear him eavesdropping. "Wouldn't be good on Raivis, you shouldn't...no, he's not home yet, but he...I don't think that's a good..." Raivis furrowed his brows, who was he talking to? His mother...? But he wasn't sure, he could hardly make out what his father was saying, speaking in a hushed, soft voice. He didn't sound angry, perhaps a bit frustrated, and little bit tense. Raivis was getting a bit restless, and finally, not wanting to disturb his father, went down the hall and to the kitchen. He'd just...start doing his homework. He could show his father his test later, but Raivis was afraid he'd be interrupting something important, if went and spoke to him just then.
